REVIEW: Equestria Girls “Pinkie Pie’s Boutique” Pinkie Pie, by Hasbro.

It’s that time of year where we send boxes of wrapped boxes to and fro across the country to our loved ones. For me this includes, as my mother would say, “my friends who live in the internet” but to me, these friends are as real and true as if they lived here where I live.

Nethilia and I don’t make any sort of attempt to hide that we are very close friends. We mention each other on our blogs, and I think Emily over at Toy Box Philosopher has gotten pretty used to the fact that if Nethilia is there, AJ is soon to follow, or vice versa. We talk daily, sharing dolly and pony squee, talking about everything under the sun, and just loving each other as best we can from legit across this big country. To me, she isn’t just a friend who lives in the internet, she is a true friend that I love deeply and can’t imagine my life without.

(And to think if I hadn’t bucked up my courage and gotten over a shade of social awkwardness, I wouldn’t have her in my life.)

Yesterday I got a box in the mail from her and it contained an embarrassment of riches. I was told that I could open it whenever I wanted, and so I did, since the slim space to walk past the tree in our house is getting slimmer. One of the things in the box is the doll you’re about to meet, so lets just get to it and meet Pinkie Pie!

Mumbled Snark: On Mattel and the Glut of Dolls.

As much as we as collectors of My Little Pony, Monster High, Ever After High – oh, just pick your poison here people, any one will do – think that we’re an influence on the companies who are creating the toys that we so love, we really shouldn’t want to be. Oh no. No we shouldn’t, y’all.

This all started yesterday, when a picture was posted on Tumblr from someone who had found the Blondie Lockes doll at a Toys R Us in Canada. There was much squeeage about how cute she was, about how much cuter than her prototype picture she was, and basically much flailing of hands about her.

(I can’t disagree with them, she is precious! Definitely coming here!)

But then there started to be a lot of comments about the sheer glut of dolls we’re getting lately. Scaremester dolls are being found. Most all of the Frights Camera Action dolls can be found somewhere, between Justice stores and Amazon. And now Blondie Lockes, with, I’m sure, Cerise Hood and C.A. Cupid soon to follow, has been found in the wild. There are new My Little Pony sets and Equestria Girls dolls and again, just pick your poison. “Do we really need all these dolls?” was asked, several times. “No, we don’t,” was a much repeated answer. There was quite a lot of kvetching about how Mattel isn’t “giving our wallets anytime to recover.”

My Little Pony Comparison: A Tale of Two Mintys

I got to talking to beastsbelle (*waves*) over at Never Grow Up in her post about the new Canterlot Castle Collector’s Set 8-pony set (that can apparently be found for a pretty reasonable price at Costco right now!) and I had mentioned that I was probably going to do a compare contrast between the two Minty figures that are now currently in existence, since they are actually quite different. beastsbelle expressed surprise that there was another one – not surprising, because it was two years ago, and she only showed up on Taobao in very limited quantities (save for a few that ended up on ebay because of  greedy scalpers and one person who tried to Buy It Now sell her for A THOUSAND DOLLARS. This is why we can’t have nice things, people.) – and that made me decide that I should do this sooner rather than later!

Add in that this little comic here is basically summing me up today…

And today just seemed like a fine day to do that!

(Also can I just say that it is still weird – and cool! – to be able to say that I was talking to this blogger or that blogger? I thought I’d start this blog and then move on and forget about it like I tend to do, but I’ve stuck with it and now I’m getting over my social awkwardness and actually talking to folks? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?!)

So, go under the jump for a comparison of two Mintys! Both alike in dignity and… eh.

REVIEW: My Little Pony Favorites Collection II and Rainbow Dash as a Shadowbolt

I have loved My Little Pony since I was a little girl of six, who got some pocket money from her grandparents and went with her mother to Lewis Drug in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and fell in love with a beautiful pink pegasus with blue hair and lightning bolts on her ass named Firefly. That little pony was my best friend all through my childhood, for real.  I watched Rescue at Midnight Castle more times than was sane. I fell out of pony collecting for a little while, other things began to hold my interest. But with the release of the Friendship is Magic 30-minute-toy-commercial TV show, I fell in love all over again. This being the age of the internet, something that I didn’t have when I was a little girl of six, I have made friends of my own age who love these little plastic horses just as much as I do.

I’ve gotten a weird little complex about these newest ponies though. They are my Pokemon. I GOTTA CATCH ‘EM ALL. Or, as I usually put it: PONY ALL THE THINGS! I’m not so much looking to collect EVERY variant there is but if they interest me, yeah, I’ll get them.  Mostly Playful Pony size ones, like the ones I’m showing here.  Fashion Styles too, mostly. This is why you can see on my shelf that I have an inordinate number of Pinkie Pie’s, since the Pinkie Pie’s Boutique line is made of girlyness and AWESOME and therefore, I love it.

I used to be worse about this, y’all. I used to insist on having the walking poses of each pony as well, but that just got silly and I stopped that. But this new Through the Mirror line is something I’ll definitely have to have, even if I already have Sunset Shimmer and Princess Twilight Sparkle. The only upcoming thing I know I’m skipping is this as-yet-unnamed playset because I already have every pony that’s in it. Yes, including Minty. A compare-contrast of the two Minty figures will come some other time.

So anyway, last week I broke down and ordered the newest Favorites Collection and special, more-expensive single pony from Toys R Us, and they arrived today, so that’s what I’ve got a review for you on!

We’ve hit a snag…

A few snags, actually.

The first snag being – WE CANNOT FIND SHELVES. All we want is some simple, put-em-together-yourself white shelves, wide enough across to hold two American Girl dolls, with another shelf for a “closet” below that, other shelves for MH and Barbie and whatever the hell else I decide that I need to have. We went to Home Depot and they had nothing. You had to order them online, have them shipped to the store, and then go and pick them up.

*record scratch*

Um. No. Hell no. So very much not paying what is undoubtedly astronomical shipping, just to have to drive across town to pick them up? What the hell, Home Depot. What the green screaming hell.

The other snag, and this is most certainly the more First World Problem of the two… I CAN’T FIND NEW TOYS!

Equestria Girls? Nada.
New My Little Pony sets? Nada.
Ever After High anywhere but Justice? Nada.
New Monster High? Nada.
Pinkie Cooper? Nada.
New Bratzillaz? Nada.

Northeast Tennessee has become a virtual toy WASTELAND, y’all. If it weren’t for Toybox Philosopher, I would never have gotten my hands on a Twyla, and if it weren’t for Nethilia, I wouldn’t be getting my hands on an Equestria Girls Rarity. Nethilia and I just, I swear, start building boxes for each other, and then mail. It’s a nice little system! But yeah.

So there really hasn’t been much to post! I did get some new AG outfits from the stuff they had marked down. Maybe I’ll review one of those. Test the new paint in the room as a backdrop. We’ll see!

I’m blue, da ba dee dabba di

Internets, I have a problem.

It’s a First World Problem, but it’s a problem.

I… am addicted to blue toys.

Mari Campbell, dressed in blue for the occassion and all the rest of the blue toys currently in my possession. (That's only two of the 14 Abbey Bominable dolls I have. Jesus christ...)

I didn’t mean for it to get this way! It just happened! >sob<

So… yeah.
